Statement by Lebanese American US Senator John E. Sununu on Papal Visit to the United States

WASHINGTON, DC – The Honorable United States Senator John E. Sununu (R-NH) today issued the following statement regarding Pope Benedict XVI’s visit to the United States. The Pope arrived in the nation’s Capitol on April 15.
"Pope Benedict’s historic visit - the first Papal visit to America in 29 years – is an honor for our country. It was moving to see so many visitors from New Hampshire and across the nation gathered at the White House to welcome him," said Sununu, who attended Wednesday morning’s arrival ceremony with his family. "The Pope spoke eloquently about the universal values of compassion, freedom, and responsibility - a message that will be well received by people of all faiths across America."
Sununu and his family will also attend the White House dinner this evening in honor of the Pope’s visit as well as the Holy Mass on Thursday morning at National’s stadium. On Thursday afternoon, he has invited New Hampshire visitors who are in Washington, DC for the Pope’s visit to stop by his office in Room 111 of the Russell Senate Office Building for refreshments.
